Yes, it is hard for this Mom to accept that her Sugarplum began Second grade today. Lauren chose to have Chick-fil-A cinnamon clusters for her first day of school breakfast this year. She didn't eat very much, as usual, for the first day of school. I think we all had butterflies in our stomach this morning. Ramiro and I walked her to her class, where Ms. Yenne was at post in the class doorway. We got the impression she rather not have us go into the classroom. So we took a quick picture, got our kiss, and there she went. I was anxious all day, waiting to pick her up and see how her day went.
Jax went with me to pick Lauren up from school. When she got home I had fresh oatmeal chocolate chip cookies ready for us to eat while we talked about her first day of Second grade. This is what I can remember from the conversation: She was thrilled that they didn't have to do any math today. Her teacher had a lot of rules, but a nice tone of voice. She only knows two boys and one girl in her class. They are not allowed to bring anything back from the cafeteria. Oh yes, she couldn't unsnap the back of her outfit to use the restroom, so Ms. Yenne sent her to the nurse for help. (Why didn't I think about that when she picked her outfit for the first day of school? Oh well, worse things could have happened I guess.)
Lauren's first homework assignment was to fill a "Me Bag" with five things that represent her, to bring to school and share with the class this week. Here's what she chose: Her newest soccer trophy, because she has played soccer since she was four. The cross she made at her first VBS, because she believes in God. A picture of Jax, her "little baby." Her sheet of Taylor Swift guitar picks, because she plays the guitar. A bundle of flowers that she made, because her "talent is arts & crafts." By the way, "This was the best homework!" and I breath a sigh of relief...
